Leigh Lynn

Booth Number: 201

Irondale, AL

Artist Bio:
Leigh’s Southern Bell mother and Korean immigrant father made a peculiar family in the segregated, southern city of Savannah, Georgia. This bi-racial child found solace at the Telfair Museum in Savannah where ‘Laocoon and His Sons’ was in the basement. Art has been intense for her ever since.

She is never far from organic, curvilinear, undulating forms, which may be echoes of Laocoon , or Spanish moss or the Savannah River.

She studied art at the University of Houston with an emphasis in ceramic sculpture and, after moving to Birmingham, received a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. While working at UAB in the Computing Center, she took art classes at night and attended Penland and John Campbell during vacations. She participated in juried exhibitions, winning an award of merit. She was on the board of directors of the Birmingham Art Association and participated in their member shows, both with sculptural forms and pottery.
