My works are two dimensional sculptures that are a blend of reality and my perception of the situations. They are meant to be an affirmation of the global characteristics of places and people and how we fit together.
As I build them, I am not looking for perfection; I leave the many individual imperfections to draw the viewer in, for the enjoyment of discovery and to celebrate my humanity.
Going beyond the predetermined proportions of my 35mm frame, I am able to let my compositions take me wherever they lead. I can give my images a lyrical quality that lets me see the musical quality of the visual world. They have movement both inside and outside of their frame.
With the idea that our environment shapes us as much as we shape our surroundings, I look to record the ordinary and extraordinary places and events of our lives that represent the universal truths of shared experiences and emotions.
I strive to make my images real but have my interpretation of a location or situation. They are meant to celebrate the harmony of place and people, while respecting their unique qualities.
