About the 2019 Cocktail Bars

The Atomic Bar & Lounge
Feizal Valli and Rachael Roberts are two ridiculous people who met in 2013 and got married three years later. As long time fans of mid century modern design and owners of several full body costumes they decided to marry the two ideas to their love of craft cocktails and dive bars. The result is The Atomic Lounge. It’s a labor of love they hope you’ll enjoy. The Atomic Lounge is a 2 time James Beard Award semi-finalist for outstanding bar program (2018 and 2019). Let’s toast them this spring!

The Collins Bar
Located on 2nd Avenue North in the heart of Birmingham’s loft district Collins is a favorite watering hole for the locals with a casual vibe that can’t be imitated. They thrive on diversity.
Whether it’s a tailor-made crafted cocktail, a local beer or a round of shots, The Collins Bar has something for everyone. Their bartenders tailor make their cocktails to suit each patron’s personal taste. So, no need to ask for a drink menu when you’re visiting the downtown bar on 2nd Avenue North. They don’t have one. Instead, trust in the skills of their talented bartenders. The Collins has racked up many accolades over the years including Best Bars of the South by Southern Living Magazine.

Paper Doll
Craft cocktail bar in Birmingham’s Loft Entertainment District, specializing in top-notch service and amazing signature cocktails.

Queens Park
“What’s in a name? We named our bar after the Queen’s Park Swizzle, a cocktail created at the Queen’s Park Hotel, located in Port of Spain, Trinidad. The hotel enjoyed moderate success until 1920, when the purchase and consumption of alcohol in the United States was made more or less illegal by the 18th Amendment. Overnight, Americans who had the means to travel began to leave the country on weekend trips to the Caribbean, where they could drink legally. Hotel management hired now-unemployable bartenders from major US cities, who brought with them scores of regulars as well as decades of cocktail expertise. Tasked with coming up with a signature drink for the hotel, these bartenders took the wildly popular Daiquiri – made with rum, sugar, and lime – and put it on crushed ice, dressing up the drink with the addition of mint and a float of locally made Angostura bitters. A star was born – the drink was a sensation that endured throughout the years, with Trader Vic proclaiming it “the most delightful form of anesthesia given out today” in 1946.

While the original Queen’s Park Hotel closed in 1996, our bar carries on the spirit of its namesake with incredible hospitality, lesser-known classic cocktails made with exacting precision and consistency, and décor that harkens to that grand hotel in Trinidad.”

Queens Park owner, Laura Newman, is the 2018 USBG Bartender of the Year and the first woman to win this title. We’re honored to have her and Queens Park in downtown Birmingham. Read more about this prestigious honor in this USBG interview.
